OUR STORY

Morgan’s Pier is named after George C. Morgan, a construction worker on the Benjamin Franklin Bridge 85 years ago, who is credited as being the first person to cross the bridge. He defied his boss' orders and shimmied across the wires before the deck was completed.
 

OUR MISSION

Each season, Morgan’s Pier, Philadelphia’s seasonal backyard beer garden along the Delaware River Waterfront, invites a different celebrated chef to take over the kitchen with their own version of a chef-hosted backyard barbecue, allowing a larger population of Philadelphia and its visitors to enjoy the casual cuisine while soaking up the outdoors and its scenery just steps from the Ben Franklin Bridge. In 2015, Morgan's Pier was named "Most Popular Bar in Pennsylvania" by Buzzfeed.

This season, our Chefs-in-Residence are Kevin D'Egidio and Michael Griffiths of helm and south helm restaurants. Helm earned a 3-bell review from Craig Laban and "Best BYOB Restaurant" by Philly Mag; as well as "Best New Sister Restaurant" respectively. Past chefs include: (2016) Jim Burke, decorated kitchen master with a long list of culinary awards and previous executive chef for famed Daniel Boulud at DB Bistro Moderne in Manhattan; (2015) Nicholas Elmi, who won Season 11 of "Top Chef" and owns Laurel restaurant in East Passyunk - named #1 restaurant in Philadelphia and listed as GQ Magazine's eighth most outstanding restaurant in America; (2014) David Gilberg, who owned the critically acclaimed Portuguese BYOB Koo Zee Doo in Northern Liberties; (2013) George Sabatino, who was named "Best of Philly" best chef and was the executive chef at Stateside - rated 2013 #1 restaurant in Philadelphia; and (2012) David Katz, who was executive chef at Fitler Square's MeMe and earned a coveted three bell review from The Philadelphia Inquirer.
